CardVault removes the risk of storing information on internal systems by storing cardholders’ profiles at a remote and secure location. Credit and Debit Card Payment Processing

Our payment products are supported by the most reliable network in the industry and include credit and debit card processing, electronic check services, gift/loyalty/promotional cards, electronic benefits transfer (EBT), corporate purchasing cards and fleet cards, as well as Dynamic Currency Conversion, multi-currency support, and cross-border acquiring.

Credit Card transactions: With Exclusive Payment Services, you have one point of contact for authorization, settlement, funding, and support for all your Visa®, MasterCard®, Discover® Network, and American Express® credit or debit card transactions.

Debit Card transactions have become overwhelmingly popular in the past few years.  There  are  two types of debit transactions: PIN (online) and signature (offline).  Both deduct funds from the consumer’s checking account.

PIN Debit

With PIN debit, the customer selects "Debit" as the payment method and then after the card is swiped must enter their Personal Identification Number (PIN) into an encrypted pin pad at the point-of-sale (POS) terminal to authenticate their identity.  The transaction is transmitted through the electronic funds transfer network and the funds are deducted from the consumer's checking account within seconds.

Signature Debit

With signature debit, the customer selects "Credit" as a payment method because the transaction is transmitted through the Visa or MasterCard networks and provides a signature after the transaction goes through.  The funds are then deducted from the consumer's checking account.  The only authentication is if the consumer is asked for picture ID.  There are good benefits to accepting this form of payment such as:
  • Fast settlement of funds- the same as credit cards
  • Reduced chargebacks
  • Less expensive for merchants than credit (generally)
  • More secure and fewer fraud losses as compared to signature debit transactions
  • Ability to make debit purchases over the Internet, phone, by mail or at the POS


Electronic Check Service

With electronic check service (ECS) your paper checks are converted into safe, efficient electronic transactions that are processed with the speed and ease of credit card transactions. Our ECS moves payments electronically from your customer's checking account to your Exclusive Payment Services Merchant Account. Gone are manual check reconciliations, time-consuming trips to the bank, and the hassles of check collections. Accepting checks has never been so convenient and cost-effective. EPS can help you reduce your cost and your risk of paper checks by converting them into electronic transactions. Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT)

Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) is a method of electronically accepting and processing government benefit programs,such as Cash Benefits or Food Stamps. Merchants accepting Food Stamps must be an authorized Food Stamp retailer (AFSR), by previously registering with the Food and Consumer Service (FCS) agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. EBT transactions are authorized and processed electronically in a “real-time” environment. However, there are cases when transactions cannot be processed due to merchant telecommunications or HOST system failures. In those instances, there is a process that allows for manual processing of Food Stamp transactions so as not to hinder a recipient’s receiving of goods.

Dynamic Currency Conversion is an essential solution for Merchants with International Clientele

Typically, foreign credit card payments are made in U.S. dollars and converted later to the buyer’s home currency with the cardholder paying a conversion fee to the card issuer. With Dynamic Currency Conversion(DCC) your international customers will know exactly what their total purchase is in their home currency as each receipt shows the purchase in U.S. dollars, the conversion rate, plus the cardholder’s home currency amount. To promote the security of the credit and debit card payment systems, the major card brands established the Payment Card Industry Council (PCI) to oversee its Data Security Standards (DSS).

Merchants of all sizes must ensure that cardholder data is protected from a security breach. A typical breach costs a small business merchant $25,000 - $50,000, but can run much higher depending on the number of cards compromised. To protect cardholder data and mitigate financial exposure, it is imperative that all merchants validate and demonstrate PCI-DSS compliance.

Reducing fraud and limiting risk will keep your business strong and help strengthen your customer relationships. The best time to manage risk is before real trouble starts.

Our merchants are backed by thorough, responsive support with a fraud prevention department that includes 13 managers and 63 Investigative Analysts. In the past, fraud perpetrators have generally gone after larger merchants but are now targeting smaller businesses. Merchants are the frontline of defense when it comes to fraud.

There are a number of things you can do to maximize the security of payments and keep fraudsters at bay. Here are some valuable tips:
  • Check the signature: Only give the card back to the card holder once you have compared the signatures from your terminal slip with the signature on the card.
  • Check the signature field: If the surface of the signature field is damaged the card will say “Void” underneath the surface. That card is not valid. Please stop the card payment process.
  • Compare the embossment data on a credit card with the data from your terminal slip: Do the cardholder’s name, credit card number and expiry date match?
  • Don’t forget the UV test: Are the typical holograms visible on the credit card, and does your UV device detect the data?
  • 'Card not present' card transactions (e-commerce/mail-order)
  • Watch for unusual or illogical orders, as well as unusual payment amounts.
  • Be careful when a customer asks to divide a payment across several credit cards or when several card numbers are associated with a single name.
  • Be careful if a customer indicates upfront that there might be a problem with the credit card.
  • Be careful if ordering party insists on shipment as fast as possible, regardless of cost, or if the customer insists on obtaining tracking ID for the delivery carrier.
